Next monday the 8th of November will see the final instalment of the Basic Space Galleries at the Basement in Circular Quay. It’s hard to believe that this will be our fifth and final month, but it has been an amazing run, with an amazing display of what is going on in the art-world of Sydney this year. Come down and check out Lucian Alperstein’s amazing works next monday and farewell (for now) this amazing space. On Monday November 8th the basic Space Galleries welcomes the photographic stylings of Lucien Alperstein. Anyone who has seen his photographs would agree that there is dude has some serious talent, and we are throwing them up on the walls to have our first exhibition that focus’ solely on photography.
Thursday 21st October / $10 or Free after bands finish
Australia’s most established jazz club The Basement has played host to a range of incredible local and international bands over the 30 plus years it’s been in operation including an infamous Prince after party and 2 Laneway festivals.
On October the 21st Speakeasy will be launching the first of it’s monthly parties with megastick fanfare in support of their new single “June Strangelets” alongside supports Domeyko/ Gonzales and Fishing with DJs playing till late.
MEGASTICK FANFARE: All of the cool kids in Sydney have known about megastick fanfare for a while and with the release of their single “June Strangelets” the rest of Australia is about to catch on.Being pretty cook kids themselves they’ve checked off most boxes on the essential indie cred check list including
– Triple J Unearthed Feature Artist
– Appearing on festivals Peatsridge & Parklife
– Sharing the stage with other excellent bands including The Middle East, Seekae, Cloud Control, and High Places (US).
– Their single “Musing’s Hearthrob” has been included on Spunk’s “Singles Club” compilation
– They self-produced and recorded their debut album in their rehearsal space with the help of engineer and friend Frey Lindsay, and mixed it with Jonathan Boulet.
– A cover version of their song “Braintooth” was recorded by kyu and released on a split 7” with the band

DOMEYKO/ GONZALEZ: Made up of James Domeyko and Jaie Gonzales they create blissful and largely improvised soundscapes that have set a new standard in the Sydney experimental scene.
FISHING: Brand new to the Sydney scene, Fishing are 2 members from We Say Bambouelee, they play Infectious electronica that lives in a world somewhere in between Caribou, Four Tet and The Avalanches.
This coming show will see two young sydney girls take on the basic space galleries with an exhibition that was created with the space specifically in mind. Claudia Bagnall and Luchi Smith have collaboratively worked to create some amazing abstract pieces, so pencil in OCTOBER THE ELEVENTH! more info to come…

Marcelle Robbins, Clinton Gorst, Billy Burke, Anastasia Freeman and Alana Tracey will be showcasing their works this September at the Basement’s cosy upstairs bar. It will be a multi-medium extravaganza that will really show a cross section of what sydneys artists are getting up to:
